This is my dedication to the wonderful online group Quilts of Love which I co-founded in January 2003 along side one of my dearest friends ~ Gramma Mimi.
The children we create our online quilts for are children who have life long medical conditions/life threatening illnesses. Our only goal is to bring some happiness to them by creating a virtual quilt that is uniquely their very own and full of things that will bring them smiles. We try to add music to each page that the child enjoys and we have 3 wonderful poetess' who write each child a personalized poem. We have a volunteer staff of 'Quilters' who use their graphic design knowledge to 'create' each quilt. We also have a small group of volunteers who send the children ecards on their birthdays to let them know we are thinking about them.
We have had many 'Angels' join our journey ~ some have been with us since the very first day ~ others come and go as their lives permit them the time to devote to the group. Each and every one gives so much from their hearts to bring a little happiness in the life of these special children who face their illnesses/conditions with such bravery. Each child teaches us lessons that we will never forget. We fall in love with each and every one.
Unforuntunately, you can't have a site for these special children without going through the loss of many of them as they gain their Heavenly Angel Wings. With each passing, our hearts are heavy and the tears flow because we think of these children as 'our children' too ~ we have been allowed the opportunity to reach out and touch their lives and the lives of their family to bring a little sunshine in when the days are dark. We have had the chance to share in the good times too and grieve with the families when the only way for their child to win their battle has been to pass on to Heaven where we BELIEVE they are all well and free from pain and illness now. It's been such an honor to know them and share their journeys and they will never be forgotten by any of us at Quilts of Love.
